Architecture School Builds $20,000 Homes for Local Residents

build a home for $20,000

Can you imagine a home with a $100 mortgage payment?

The RuralStudio project at Auburn University connects architecture students with local residents, many of whom rely solely on Social Security Income to meet their daily needs. For most, home ownership is an impossible dream, but faculty advisor Sam Mockbee and his talented student team are making it possible by designing and building $20,000 homes.

RuralStudio has been building these homes for 20 years, and they are now ready to release the designs onto a larger market. You can view additional photos and plans on their blog.
